Your argument applies, I would think, to Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, and most of the other candidates too: Any dollar they spend now is a dollar that could be spent helping the eventual Republican nominee in the general election. But this argument, too, does not seem to me to be especially strong. If the nominee is at all strong, he will, and allied groups will, have plenty of money to spend in the fall. The election is not going to be lost for lack of money.
