Romney Watch

AP:

The Republican Governors Association received…half-million dollars in October 2002 from a public affairs company owned by Michael Scanlon, Abramoff’s business partner.

More:

The association is headed by Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, a potential 2008 presidential candidate. Romney says the money will be given to American Red Cross chapters in five hurricane-ravaged states.

My understanding is that this money dates back to 2002.

Cleaning up is something he’s used to, having done it to the Olympics. (The scandal-ridden Salt Lake Organizing Committee was $379 million in debt when Romney started. But under his leadership turned a $100 million profit.)

And not a position for a presidential aspirant right about now.
