I did a quick honor roll of elected officials who have taken the White House on to varying degrees, which is up elsewhere on NRO. My impression talking to people today here and there is that if this (pro)Miers campaign ever had any steam, it may be running out of, her fine answers on judicial activism aside. There is going to be a fight (see DiFi), so let’s not have a weird fight–one not really worth fighting–where the nominee possibly goes down through some kind of bipartisan meltdown. I’m sounding like a broken record but it’s worth saying now, when things can be cleaned up before they get a whole lot uglier. I still think withdrawal is an option, and an attractive one.
