Re: New Poll Shows Four Top Contenders in Iowa

As Katrina posted, it’s a four-way in Io-way. Lots of room for wild-thinking out that direction, so Ron Paul’s 19 percent isn’t nearly as surprising as Newt’s amphibious candidacy, now surfacing from its voyage to the depths. The governor of Iowa, Terry Branstad, a man who can outshuck Iowa corn any day, told Radio Iowa how to read the results of the surprising poll:

“It’s still a very much wide open race,” Branstad said.

Take your foot off the rhetoric pedal, governor. It’s just politics. And, in the case of the mysterious Iowa caucuses, history. At The Fortnightly Review, Jon Lauck, an author, a scholar, and a South Dakotan (he’s a senior adviser to Sen. John Thune), goes a long way toward explaining why Iowa’s backstory keeps the state on the front pages every four years.
