Multiple Senate GOP sources confirm that Sen. Ron Johnson (R., Wis.), who is running for vice-chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, has the votes “locked up.” The position, the GOP’s No. 5 post, would make Johnson the upper chamber’s highest-ranking freshman.
“Senator Johnson has quickly established himself as a leader with sway among other members,” one aide says. “It looks like he has the votes locked up, which means conservatives would have solid representation in GOP leadership.”
