Andy – Short answer: Lawyers ain’t priests and we get into a lot of trouble as a society when we confuse that point.
Slightly longer answer: As I understand it priests counsel their wards/confessors to turn themselves in and get right with the law. This lawyer didn’t do that. And, it’s my understanding he should have as an officer of the court and all that (but you know a lot more about this than I do). Instead, he told “60 Minutes” it wouldn’t be in his client’s interest to be told to come clean and so he let an innocent guy rot. This is “60 Minutes” of course, so who knows how much of the story was left out. But I was not left with an improved impression of the legal profession.
