The rally-around-hezbollah effect

It is indeed worrisome, as Andrew has pointed out in this space, that Hezbollah’s popularity is soaring. But I wonder how long-lasting that effect will be. If I recall correctly, there were pro-regime, anti-U.S. protests in the streets in the midst of the Kosvo war, which would have suggested that the war was backfiring politically in a disturbing way. But, in the end, we defeated Milosevic and he was ousted not too long afterwards. I’m not suggesting there’s a perfect analogy here, but if Hezbollah is seen to have taken a severe blow, when passions cool a bit, it might be that it loses all the political support it has gained in the last two weeks.
