P.S. on ‘Very Different from W., ‘Tis True’

Among the Presidential Medals of Freedom that George W. Bush awarded was one to Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet, the democracy activist who has languished for many years in a Castroite dungeon. He is an “Afro-Cuban” physician, and his models are Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Biscet was not able to receive his medal in person (obviously). Maybe someday?

And a second P.S. — a P.P.S.: One day, years ago, Rep. Eliot Engel, the excellent New York Democrat, told me that his party had a “blind spot” about Cuba. I thought that was just the right way of putting it. And what a dismaying blind spot to have.
