Before we get too carried away by sympathy for Georgia to seriously consider admitting it to NATO, take a look at this map of the ethnic groups of the Caucasus — it makes the Balkans look good in comparison. And even the Georgian people are not really a unified ethnic group — because they lost their last vestige of statehood in 1801, they never underwent the modern homogenizing process of ethnic consolidation like, say, France or Germany. This is not a part of the world we want to have much to do with.
