Microsoft Scrubs God

You know the song “Let There Be Peace on Earth”? I know it as well as you know something you were required to sing in elementary school, because I was. All those adorable little voices chiming in for world peace. But even in liberal New Jersey, we sang it with the original lyrics. Those lyrics include these words: “With God as our father, brothers all are we.” Apparently, that was too religious for Microsoft, which has produced a holiday (!) TV commercial featuring new young piping voices singing the song, but the lyrics referring to God are gone. Really? Is that the point American culture has reached, that a Christmas video from a major corporation scrubs God from the song?
