On NBC this morning, Senator Rand Paul suggested that military strikes in Syria might worsen the situation there and lead to more suffering, especially for our allies. He asked the preceding guest, Secretary of State John Kerry, whether U.S. military strikes would make further chemical-weapons attacks more likely, mean more refugees fleeing into U.S. ally Jordan, and increase the chances of attacks on Israel.
“I think all the bad things that you can imagine are all more likely if we get involved in the Syrian civil war,” Paul said.
“I think . . . it accelerates the misery,” the libertarian senator said. “Do you think more people will die or less people?”
