Our colleague and mate, the historian Richard Brookhiser, has an observation about my “dynasty” note, below. “First Frelinghuysen in Congress — Frederick Frelinghuysen, 1778. That would be the Continental Congress. Only Adamses can top that, and they crapped out. Bush-Clinton-Cuomo parvenus, take note.”
P.S. Frederick Frelinghuysen’s grandson and namesake, Frederick Theodore Frelinghuysen, was Arthur’s secretary of state. Sumbitches got stock.
