At this point on election night, the likely outcomes for Governor Schwarzenegger’s ballot measures range from partial victory to total loss. From the standpoint of Democratic legislators, the most important results are the probable defeat both of redistricting reform and the governor’s spending initiative. Now they might get cocky and push even harder for a liberal agenda. If so, the governor could have an opportunity, just as his own hubris provided an opening to the Democrats earlier this year. Meanwhile, however, he has to brace for some painful news cycles in the days ahead.
