Is it okay for a public college to fire a professor just because he disagrees with the DEI apparatchiks who run the school? That was the issue in a case that was just concluded, involving history professor Matthew Garrett and Bakersfield College. As we read in this Legal Insurrection post, Garrett has won a $2.4 million settlement.
That’s good news. Unfortunately, the money won’t be paid by any of the people responsible — the officials who would rather lose a capable professor than tolerate someone who questions their DEI agenda. The school’s insurance is covering the loss. The leftists therefore have accomplished the objective of expelling a dissenter at the expense of California taxpayers.
