One Last Casey at Bat at Catholic Post

In answering a question by a priest on civil unions, Casey said that he doesn’t think that a politician’s position on a public policy matter can be “based on” or “mandated” by your faith.

In answering another question on religious liberty – specifically the Massachusetts situation where Catholic Charities has been threatened by its position on gay adoptions – he reiterated that faith can’t “dictate” a public official’s views on such matters.

He stressed his independence – from his party, from other factors … like faith.

He moved onto answer a question on the war and said that there should be a new secretary of defense. You know, like he did on Meet the Press, like he would do during any other campaign speech.

Now, we’re onto immigration.

The one bit of consistency I’ve heard from during this Q&A is none of his answers have been particularly articulate. More laundry list or muddled. Compare that to when you get Santorum talking about the war or religious liberty.

Make no mistake, Catholic University had a politician on campus giving a stump speech. Not only is that an identity issue for them, but it’s a forum they ought to give Rick Santorum if they’ve now given it to Bob Casey.
