Obama’s Former Budget Director on Missed Deadline: It Takes a Long Time to Print a Budget

According to President Obama’s former budget director Peter Orszag, the reason the president didn’t produce a budget on time was that it takes too long to print one: “There are a lot of things that you can get kind of worked up about, that deadline should not be one of them. The problem here, by the way, is the mechanics of putting together the annual budget are too antiquated, so it takes much longer to put the numbers together and print it and blah blah blah than it should. So if you don’t know what the law is going to be until January 1, then you’re not going to make it. . . . You can’t print a budget in a month.”
