Obama Welcomes Chicago Blackhawks after Sounding Off on Redskins

President Obama happily hosted his hometown’s Chicago Blackhawks to the White House on Monday. The president’s extending his welcome to honor the Blackhawks comes only a few weeks after he recently weighed in on the Washington Redskins name controversy.

Last month, President Obama said he would “think about changing” the Redskins name because it “was offending a sizable group of people.” The president has not commented on the subject of the Blackhawks’ name, despite the fact that the Blackhawks, named after the Sauk warrior, and the  Redskins have very similar logos of the heads of American Indians.

In August, while hosting the 1972 Miami Dolphins, President Obama referred to the Redskins by their controversial name.
