Obama Agrees to Take Russia Proposal to U.N.

President Obama has agreed to begin discussions within the U.N. in order to “explore seriously the viability” of the Russian proposal for Syria to give control of its chemical weapons to the international community, a White House official said Tuesday. Obama spoke with his French and British counterparts, saying “they agreed to work closely together and in consultation with Russia and China” to ensure the weapons “verifiable and enforceable destruction.” Efforts to push the proposal in the U.N. will begin on Tuesday with the possibility of a U.N. Security Council resolution.
