A Not-So-Great Wall, and a Great Man

I imagine you’re about Berlin Wall’d out, since the commemoration two days ago, and all the commentary that has gone with it. But there is something worthwhile in today’s Impromptus, I think: a letter from a reader who was an aide to Gen. Vernon Walters, who was ambassador to West Germany at the time the Wall fell. She tells what it was like, with Walters, in those vivifying days. And how pleasant to remember Walters: a singular diplomat and man of action, and a friend of NR’s, by the way (a cruise guest!).
