Not So B-a-a-D

I agree with Myrna Blyth that the Michael Jackson trial had become a crashing bore, but I don’t agree that the acquital was b-a-a-d. I’m glad Jackson got off. MJ is deeply weird, we all agree, but (we probably DON’T all agree here) perfectly harmless. No, I wouldn’t let my son sleep over at Neverland, because I try to keep him away from all weirdness, even the harmless sorts; but I seriously doubt that anyone who did sleep there is any the worse for it.

Personally, I find MJ rather sweet, though a bit pathetic. I can no more imagine him raping a child — or an adult, for that matter — than I can imagine Tiny Tim doing so. But everything to do with adults having the wrong feelings about kids is a hysteria zone — look at those terrible prosecutions of the 1980s.

Contra Myrna, I’m surprised at the quantity of good sense on display at the MJ trial.
