No One Fears President Biden — Except His Fellow Democrats

I thought late last week that Biden was teetering as momentum continued to build against him and he, importantly, was reportedly showing some leg about getting out in private conversations. In the game of chicken with his party, if he showed any weakness, it would create an incentive for internal opponents to get bolder. Instead, he came out this week more adamant than ever, restoring the dynamic that had benefited him for so long — why weaken him further, when he’s not going anywhere anyway? — and getting the clear upper hand in the game. Perhaps he can still undo himself with some other disaster this week or before the Democratic convention, but he’s winning the battle with his party, and Democrats may have to live with the downside consequences for years.
