A Nice Memorial Day Event

My fiancée does work for a charter-school manager out in Chicago, called UNO, United Neighborhood Organization. Its students are largely Latino, and there’s a heavy emphasis on traditional old-school patriotism. Today it’s holding a Veterans Memorial naming ceremony, which is a tradition at UNO schools. They will honor nine deceased veterans. Each veteran gets a classroom named in his honor and his story, photos and some personal items are put on display to remind students of their respective sacrifices.

On Friday, the classrooms will be named after: Second Lieutenant Frank G. Duran, a WWII vet; PFC Charles P. Galvan (WWI); Ruben Guerra (WWII); Brigadier General Joseph G. Iniguez, Jr. (the Korean War); SGT Clifford J. Johnson (WWII); Paul Villa Leya (the Korean War); PFC Manuel Perez, Jr. (WWII);Manuel Ramirez (WWII); PFC Joseph Albert Quiroz (Vietnam).
