The Corner

Narnia

I don’t want to open a whole can of worms with John Miller and others, but I can no longer keep silent. I must speak my conscience. I think it’s a pretty bad movie. I saw it for the first time late at night on pay-per-view a while ago so I didn’t feel like I could be fair to it. But I watched it again on the flight out to sunny Houston yesterday, and I just don’t think it works. It’s too rushed. The characters are never developed. The story moves along too fast as if the actors have to catch up with it and the special effects, while pretty good at times, tend to get in the way of the story and acting rather than advance either. Maybe if it had been an hour longer.

I’m delighted it has made a lot of money — because I think that’s a good signal for Hollywood all in all. But it really doesn’t hold a candle to the Lord of the Rings.

Anyway, I had to say it.
