The Corner

My Take

My attention flagged during some of the debate, which seemed endless. Hillary was fine, if more careful than ever. She might have had her strongest moment during the torture question when Russert said she had just disagreed with something Bill had said. “Well, he’s not standing here right now,” she said. And when Russert asked if there was a disagreement between the two said, “I’ll talk to him later.” Obama didn’t seem to stand out particularly. Edwards succeeded in being the left-most viable candidate, coming on strong with his (often ridiculous) populism. But people seemed to like it, applauding, for instance, his promise to cut off health care for Congress if it doesn’t pass comprehensive health care. Dodd was lively and forceful, although I doubt it matters much. And Kucinich was funny, and even winsome.
