My Favorite Paleos

A reader writes in:

I think I have a pretty good idea of what liberal writers you respect. I’d be interested to know who your five favorite (and least favorite) paleoconservatives are.

I’m going to ignore the parenthetical comment, since it invites me to make a list of people you’ve never heard of and explain why you should be grateful you haven’t. Confining myself to the living but defining paleo broadly enough to include people who might more precisely be described as in the paleo orbit, I’d say, in no particular order: Steve Sailer, Michael Brendan Dougherty, Jim Antle, Allan Carlson, and Lawrence Auster. I sometimes object strongly to what they have to say, but I usually find it interesting.
