Susan Rice is “one of the most brilliant minds alive,” according to Georgetown professor and MSNBC contributor Michael Eric Dyson, who had high praise for Rice in the wake of her appointment as national-security adviser.

“Given that she’s one of the most brilliant minds alive, this plays to her strengths in such a powerful way,” Dyson said of her new position. “Now this woman is able to display to the nation her extraordinary capacities, her gifts.”

Dyson also saw her appointment as a White House rebuke to Republicans, who have criticized Rice for blaming the terrorist attack on an American diplomatic facility in Benghazi on an anti-Muslim YouTube video. “It is a kind of comeuppance in a way — it’s not schadenfreude — but it is a kind of, ‘Uh-huh, what did I tell you?’” he argued.
