This might make some sense. It will presumably bond his plurality of the party to him more intensely and put pressure on DeSantis to follow. Even if he wants to, it will be hard for the Florida governor to be as furiously anti-establishment as Trump. And any daylight here will presumably be used by Trump to accuse DeSantis of being allied with the elements of the party that he wants to grind to dust.
