More on the Bad Night

On the other hand–again according to exit poll date I’m looking at–you can still see the outlines of Hillary’s traditional Democratic coalition, even on this terrible night. She won whites who don’t have a college degree and whites earning less than $50,000 (in both of those categories, she barely beat Edwards). She won pretty handily among white Democrats (44% for Hillary, 33% for Edwards, and 22% for Obama). She narrowly lost to Edwards among whites age 31-60 and tied him among whites over 60 (Obama got 26% and 16% respectively). In the states where there are fewer black voters and where Edwards is less of a factor, Hillary’s strengths among these categories of voters will serve her well.
