Missouri Governor Ends Curfew

Just days after its implementation, Missouri governor Jay Nixon announced Ferguson will not have a curfew beginning Monday night. The decision comes on the same day Nixon directed the state’s National Guard to the city “to help restore peace and order.”

“The Guard will concentrate its resources on carrying out this limited mission,” he said in a statement. “As long as there are vandals and looters and threats to the people and property of Ferguson, we must take action to protect our citizens.”

Sunday night was one of the most violent nights in a week of unrest, according to reports.

On Saturday, Missouri Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson, who is overseeing the policing in Ferguson, announced the implementation of a curfew from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m., which was met with resistance by many residents.
