Mike Joyce Obit Watch

The New York Times finally runs one. Unfortunately, it contains a major error. It is not true that “Mr. Joyce left the Olin Foundation when it disbanded in accordance with Mr. Olin’s wishes and then took charge at the Bradley Foundation.” Joyce was executive director of the John M. Olin Foundation from 1979 to 1985; he left to take essentially the same job at the Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee, holding that position from 1985 to 2001. The Olin Foundation continued its grantmaking for two decades after Joyce’s departure.

The Wash Post has an obituary on Joyce today as well.

John J. Miller, the national correspondent for National Review and host of its Great Books podcast, is the director of the Dow Journalism Program at Hillsdale College. He is the author of A Gift of Freedom: How the John M. Olin Foundation Changed America.
