In a “Tampa Tidbits” post yesterday, I wrote, “Florida is very, very cementy, as everyone knows. But the ‘old Florida’ manages to come through. Where there’s not cement, there’s something wet and lush — primitive-seeming.” A reader writes, “Please don’t say ‘cementy’ when you mean ‘concrete-y.’ Cement is just one ingredient in concrete. (Cement, sand, gravel & water.) I’m an architect and sensitive to this common error.”
D’oh! I have made this error before — and I have continued in it. I hope this latest correction will cement my understanding — will make my understanding concrete (or something). Will stop now . . .
P.S. They’ll have me wearing cement — or concrete? — shoes . . .
