Leap Day Econception on Stadium Subsidies

The latest episode of my podcast with the American Institute for Economic Research, Econception, is out today. I talked to John Mozena of the Center for Economic Accountability about stadium subsidies. His view can be summarized by the headline for an article he wrote for Capital Matters last year: “Stop Subsidizing Stadiums.” They don’t create the economic growth they promise, waste taxpayer money, and are a form of corporate welfare for already wealthy sports franchises.

I also talked about the FTC’s decision to block the merger of grocery-store companies Kroger and Albertsons. The task of defining what counts as a grocery store is more difficult than one might think. And elevated tariffs on steel and aluminum have been in effect for six years now; have they worked? (Spoiler alert: no.)
