Krauthammer’s Take: ‘Republicans Are Doing a Lot Worse This Year Than They Should Be’

The GOP will take the Senate, Charles Krauthammer says, but “Republicans are doing a lot worse this year . . . than they should be.”

The Special Report panelist highlighted one race in particular on Tuesday evening: Kentucky’s battle between Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes. “Lincoln is said to have said, about the Civil War, ‘I would like to have God on my side, but I must have Kentucky.’ If Republicans can’t win Kentucky, in this year with all the factors going in their favor — unpopularity of the president, things abroad [and] things at home not looking good, and with a fairly weak candidate [running against them] . . .”

He is, however, optimistic that they’ll keep the Bluegrass State regardless: “I’m not surprised at the [Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee] pulling out. It is a race they are not going to win.”

Still, the fact that McConnell has not secured the seat outright is an indication that Republicans are weaker than they should be.
