Krauthammer’s Take

From Wednesday night’s Fox News All-Stars.

On President Obama’s statement at a San Francisco fundraiser: “We’ve lost our ambition, our imagination, and our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge and Hoover Dam”:

Ambition, imagination, accomplishing great things? Like John Kennedy’s vision of America leading the world in man’s space exploration — which Obama has systematically dismantled? If I were him, I wouldn’t be bringing up imagination and great things. It’s poor salesmanship.

On the counterargument that really great things in America are done by the private sector:

I would chalk up the moon landing and the Manhattan Project as American achievements — even though they were government achievements.

On Obama’s student loan adjustment:

What he spoke about today was tweaking the student loan program … The numbers were run by an economics correspondent today in the Atlantic magazine. And it turns out that what he’s offering these students is between $4.50 and $7.70 a month of relief.

Now, these are students that he addressed today and spoke about their carrying an average of $25,000 in loans. So what he’s saying is: I’m going to save you. I’ll give you a quarter of a hardback [book] every month!

This is in keeping with all of the promises he’s been making over the last campaign tour in which he promises relief to homeowners in a program which has already failed, and now he’s doing it on student loans.

If his audience had known how minuscule is the benefit, he would have been laughed out of that auditorium.
