One of the benefits of going through a primary contest is that it helps sharpen a candidate’s performance for the general.

Kamala Harris’s impressive display of inanity and vapidity — blowing lay-up after lay-up in the friendly environs of yesterday’s CNN town hall moderated by Anderson Cooper — prompted Salem Radio talk-show host Bob Frantz to remark that Harris may be the most incompetent/unprepared major-party presidential candidate of his lifetime, dating back to the Nixon–Humphrey contest. The candidates since then have been:

George McGovern –Richard Nixon

Jimmy Carter–Gerald Ford

Jimmy Carter–Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan–Walter Mondale

Michael Dukakis–George H.W. Bush

Bill Clinton–George H.W. Bush

Bill Clinton–Bob Dole

Al Gore–George W. Bush

John Kerry–George W. Bush

Barack Obama–John McCain

Barack Obama–Mitt Romney

Hillary Clinton–Donald Trump

Joe Biden–Donald Trump
