Jigsaw Ethics

There is nothing we do, nothing, that is altogether bereft of moral content. No, not even jigsaw puzzling:

Dear Sir — Regarding your puzzle. When you first open the box and find some pieces still stuck together in their proper arrangement, do you break them apart and mix them up with the all the loose pieces? Or do you see it as a gift from the puzzle gods and carefully remove the segment(s) to get a quick headstart?

I ask because, in my family, there’s dispute on which course of action is the most sporting.

[Derb]   I am shocked that anyone would think of leaving pieces stuck together. In fact, the proper course of action is to separate the pieces so stuck, then drop them into different parts of the box, following up with a good vigorous mixing of all the pieces.

Just when you think you have plumbed the darkest depths of the nation’s moral decline, someone comes up with something like this. I weep for my country.
