Question: Is it allowed in shar‘ia to determine the sex of the embryo? There are different methods for that such as using calculations (the Chinese method) or certain diet or by referring to the doctor.

Answer: There is no objection to the medical examination and investigations aimed for knowing whether the embryo/fetus is a male or a female. But, it is not true that one can change the sex of the embryo/fetus using medicines, food, etc.
