I first heard about Alex Chilton because the Replacements sang about him. Then I discovered Big Star, his band. I came to enjoy Big Star, though, in truth, I’ve enjoyed bands said to be “influenced by Big Star” even more. “Jesus Christ” is a good song; the cover version by Teenage Fanclub goes into heavy rotation at my house each Christmas.
