On Immigrants as People

Kathryn is 100 percent correct, and I never meant to imply otherwise. My apologies If the wording was ambiguous.

And a Catholic reader shares this:

[Y]our explanation of the Bishops’ position on immigration…resonates with my experience as a Catholic lay minister.  Hispanic parishes are a drain on any Diocese’s finances.  On the other hand, dealing with illegal immigrants on a personal level causes many priests and bishops to develop considerable sympathy for their plight.  I wish the bishops would realize that immigration can and should be done legally.
