Ignorance and Our Impending National Bankruptcy

Our national debt mounts incessantly. The cost of servicing that debt is enormous and growing. What do Americans think about this situation?

As we read here on Powerline, very few understand that federal spending must be cut. Rather, most think that taxes should be increased on “the rich” and on businesses.

Obviously, these people have been misled by leftist propaganda to believe that rich people are escaping taxation and that businesses are ready sources of cash for government spending. Also, they don’t understand opportunity costs. Money taken from rich people and businesses so government can spend it means less investment, less private spending, and less for charity.

It does not speak well of our education and media institutions that so many people believe otherwise.
