“Sweet Smell of Success.” A flop upon its first release in 1957, “Sweet Smell” has, without question, the most distinctive and original-sounding English-language screenplay of any movie, and two evil lead performances by Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis that could not in any way be any better than they already are, which is to say, perfect.
