Human Rights, Michael Rubin, Iran & Islam

Michael links to one piece in The Middle East Quarterly. Let me link to another: Denis MacEoin’s important “Why Do Muslims Execute Innocent People?” The question comes up so clearly in the outrageous case of Nazanin Fatehi, who is still on trial (retrial, after a little noise from the outside caused the sharia court to throw out her death sentence.) If you’re not familiar with the case: Iran may kill this young woman for defending herself and her niece when a gang of men were assaulting them. She killed one of them. Of course, we can assume had Nazanin been a honorable (!?!) little girl and allowed herself and or her niece to be raped, she’d be facing possible death too, all in the name of honor or some similar pervesion.

Anyway, more on Nazanin in my recent piece, with some more links. And Michael Rubin’s doing some great work with The Middle East Quarterly.
