Rachel Weiner at the Huffington Post should win an award for fiction. She argues that “Right-Wing Neocons” root for Ahmadinejad to win. To do so, she cites my interview with K-Lo yesterday. Only problem is that I don’t say anything that could lead to such a conclusion (which presumably is why Rachel Weiner doesn’t provide a link).
My problems — shared with Iran analysts across the political spectrum — is that on the issues that matter most to U.S. security and diplomacy, such as nuclear proliferation, violent opposition to the peace process, material support for terrorism, and shipment of EFPs to anti-government forces in Iraq and Afghanistan — it is the Revolutionary Guard and the Supreme Leader that matter, not the presidency. I advocate supporting the labor unions, and people like Mansour Osanlou, whom Weiner is content to ignore.
Rachel Weiner simply cannot fathom that the world does not revolve around Washington, nor that Iranians are not templates upon which to play out silly partisan grudges.
As an aside, Weiner appears not to fathom the difference between a neoconservative, a hawk, and a realist; she conflates all these together.
Rachel, feel free to issue a correction, if truth and honesty are any more progressive values or prized at the Huffington Post.
