Huckabee’s Contribution

Anecdotal evidence, along with a little bit of data, suggests that he is bringing some new voters and activists to Republican politics. People who think that Huckabee would split the party and repel swing voters may not be thrilled at that prospect. Historically, though, at both local and national levels, campaigns that have brought new voters into the party have ended up serving it pretty well. The more political experience the new voters and activists get, the less likely they are to support party-splitting or unelectable candidates.
