Hey Arlen, Act Like a Gentleman!

Republican National Committee Co-Chair John Larimer has issued a statement condemning Sen. Arlen Specter (D., Penn.) for telling Rep. Michele Bachmann (R., Minn.) to “act like a lady” during a radio appearance.

“Senator Specter’s rude and arrogant comments yesterday were not only disrespectful to Congresswoman Bachmann, but demeaning to all women…Women should never be treated as second class citizens. It’s clear Senator Specter has spent too much time in Washington, and this November I am confident Pennsylvanians will choose a new direction.”

But I prefer the response I got from a reader, who refers to himself as “Jonah’s Airpower Guy” (didn’t know Jonah’s rhetorical attacks required close air support):

My father was an old-school, naturalized American who, if I learned anything from, was what it means to be a gentleman.

No true gentleman would ever tell a woman to “act like a lady” in public, and certainly not in the context of a political debate.
