Hawk & Dove

To those of us in DC, the Hawk ‘n’ Dove is a bar just down the street from NR’s Washington headquarters. It’s also the title of a very good new book by Nicholas Thompson, The Hawk and the Dove: Paul Nitze, George Kennan, and the History of the Cold War. My podcast interview with Thompson is here. We discuss who Nitze and Kennan were, why they were so important, and how they could be close friends and bitter rivals at the same time.

John J. Miller, the national correspondent for National Review and host of its Great Books podcast, is the director of the Dow Journalism Program at Hillsdale College. He is the author of A Gift of Freedom: How the John M. Olin Foundation Changed America.
