President Bush spoke at the Catholic Prayer Breakfast this morning and during his remarks said: ” I appreciate the members of Congress who have joined us. Thanks for letting me come by to say, hello.”
You’re reading it right now and thinking, why is K-Lo pointing out a formality? It was all about the delivery. It came across as a biting line and one of the big laugh lines of the breakfast.
And you could tell he was proud of himself, too.
And yes, people laugh at prayer breakfasts. Preferably not during the rosary though.
The other Bush laugh line came when, after mispronouncing “apostolic” (apolostic), he talked about a child saved by Catholic education in D.C., running for student of the month. I never did achieved such a thing, he quipped. Cute.
I do have the impression from the enthusiastic standing o the president received from this crowd that the Catholic Speaker of the House might not have fit in well at this breakfast.
