The Corner

Grand New Party

Ross Douthat’s and Reihan Salam’s new book is out today, and it is very well worth your while. The book is being sold as a prescription for the right, and it is that, but it is also a fascinating and important history of the last seven decades or so of American politics — indeed, like any truly conservative book, it is largely a history book. In its prescriptions, it is a call for a return to a reforming conservatism that respects the aspirations of the American people and understands why small government requires strong families, and how a properly oriented politics can champion both. Can’t say I agreed with every word, of course, but it’s a book full of insight.
