The Corner

A Genuine First–Quite Extraordinary

Over at the blog written by the editorial-page staff of the Dallas Morning News, our old buddy Rod Dreher is participating in an extraordinary open debate about an editorial that appeared in the paper about the Danish cartoon controversy. Rod criticizes the editorial that appeared; the staffer who wrote the editorial responds, as does another staffer; and it goes back and forth and back and forth. As a former editorial-page editor, I have to say this is a revelatory moment for readers who might want to know what goes on behind the scenes at an editorial page. As it happens, I have some disagreements with Rod on the issue, but his stalwart stance on this matter is Rod at his best — passionate, informed, serious and witty.
