Free Speech Needs Strong Allies

Joe Rogan during UFC 261 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, April 24, 2021 (Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports)

Over on the main site, I have a piece up noting that Joe Rogan will be fine whatever happens with Spotify given his massive audience, but that cancel culture poses a bigger threat to ordinary Americans, who don’t have such a huge platform or dedicated fan base. Charlie makes the pitch as to why it is important to support National Review as a consistent defender of the principle of open speech:

National Review is what I have taken to calling a “full service” defender of free speech. Not only do we vigorously defend the legal right to speech that is contained within the First Amendment, we seek a broader American culture in which that right can be candidly used. As ever, your support is crucial to this effort — not only because your donations help to keep us afloat, but because every gift we receive makes us less dependent on the avenues that are targeted by the cancelers. How’s that for a twofer?

We have a webathon running this week, focusing on this issue and a few others. Please consider a donation if you haven’t already.
